what’s it all about?

Chasm Trail

Chasm Trail (Photo credit: Julia Folsom)

I’m never simply about
what I appear to be about
never say exactly what I mean
but I mean what I say

I’m an experience
within an experience
according to your point of view
but I have no viewpoint, don’t you see?

I ask you to take an immense leap of faith
over the chasm that separates us
but remember it’s dangerous
to jump to any conclusion

I’m a contradiction
and I’m not
I’m a skillful liar
but I always tell the truth

you wish you’d said that
but you did, didn’t you?
because I may have meant
something else entirely

As one who both loves to read and write poetry, I’m of the opinion that sometimes a poem requires something from both the reader and the writer. Both bring their perspective and experiences to the poem and the result is something unique. Something shared between us and a part of both of us.
