Sure. Fine. Whatever.

sometimes, nothing seems to go right
the world is all mixed up and strange
and you know you are not where you are supposed to be
so, maybe it has to do with the way the planets are arranged

or it could just be that life is one big tragic comedy
and that fate has a great sense of humor
with the keystone cops chasing on every channel
but someone forgot to let us in on the nasty rumor

what if there’s no point to all our grand scientific methods
and it doesn’t matter in the end whether we smile or frown
oops, be careful not to run that stop sign
while we are racing to get out of this crazy town

This is a new poem. I wanted to write a tribute to an X-Files episode that I think is a hilarious dark comedy, “Syzygy“. It is not a big fan favorite, because I guess Scully and Fox seem a little out of character, but I attributed that to whatever was making everybody in the town a little crazy and out of character. I purposely left out any overt connection to Scully and the X-Files to give the poem a broader context and in the hope that someone who was not a fan and hadn’t seen the episode could also enjoy the poem. Excuse me now, I gotta get out of this crazy town.

The irony in this is perfect for all that is going on in the world.
