some yellow dandelions

once a recycled container
full of the sparkling
water of life
now, almost empty

having poured my precious contents
on many a futile garden
attempting to grow
something good and green

instead of the prickly weeds
creeping thistles and crab grass
with some yellow dandelions
that are all that are found in my backyard

Great metaphor for all those pesky regrets or roads not chosen. Just saying.

Thank you. Ah yes, regrets. I’ve had my share, I suppose. I got my wife a beautiful flowering plant in a pretty pot for Valentines this year. We sat it next to the front door, but the poor thing just didn’t get watered enough. Now it is just a pot of dirt. I should write a poem about that. πŸ™‚

Thanks. I started to write a poem called “empty” which was how I was feeling at the time. In the first version I poured myself out beside the road of life. But that seemed like such a wasteful and silly thing to do. So, I decided I should be ecological and pour myself into a garden. Unfortunately, I’ve never been much of a gardener and the next thing I knew there were weeds in my poem.

Beautiful! nature never ceases to console us in some amazing way, does it?

Nature is amazing. As a kid I thought dandelions were neat, especially when they turned all white and I could blow the seeds off into the air. I guess some people consider them just pesky weeds, but others consider them a beneficial weed and a herbal medicine. I liked that they can be considered both ways.

Dandelions are flower too! “Weed” is just a label given to them by chemical companies. (smiles)

Definitely, I agree! I liked dandelions as a kid. I kinda wanted them to represent a potential for hope or something. A weed that isn’t necessarily a weed. Of course, also not likely something that I planted and tended in the garden intentionally. πŸ™‚

Weeds may be more common and plentiful, but they have a beauty of their own. As does this poem πŸ™‚

Thank you. I’ve found as I’ve grown older that I find beauty in so many things that I never took the time to even notice in my youth.

Dandelions are the bright sun yellow amongst the other perhaps less desirable weeds…

Hey, the thistle is the National Flower of Scotland, so be nice!
    And dandelions are people too…
