right and wrong or good and bad
seem to have lost meaning to most of humanity
except as ethical misconceptions of the mind
with no basis in physical or spiritual reality

like and love or hate and fear
are emotions that we all have in common
so why doesn’t that give us understanding
and wouldn’t that just be awesome?

like as not it makes no difference
for in the end there is equality
and whatever we do or try to do
will asymptotically approach infinity

happy or sad and together or alone
we all struggle though life’s tragedies
and the purpose of what it all means
is the ultimate unknowable mystery

This old college poem, originally titled “the sky is only sky”, was on my junk pile. I’ve always felt it had good potential but that it doesn’t pull it all together and end with enough punch. Maybe someday i will think of a revision that will make me happier with it. Or not. 🙂

Update. I decided to cut the interleaved two-line stanzas. I think that helps tighten this poem up. Still perhaps needs more work.

In the end it is all subjective, even good and evil.
