my red rose

Red Rose

Red Rose (Photo credit: iProzac)

a once fragrant red flower
now faded
and scentless

dried, aged and withered
by the passing of so many long years
of drought and loss

brittle and crumbling
like a recently unearthed
ancient Egyptian mummy

yet her thorns
still have their prickle
and bite

and her touch
still makes me bleed
red like the rose she once was

The memory of some people seem to be painful no matter how much time passes.
