filling empty space

Empty Room - Re Vamp

Empty Room – Re Vamp (Photo credit: oddsock)

each evening I now go off
to the solace of my quiet bedroom
and turn on my lava lamps
to disperse the surrounding gloom

if I want some action, I can turn on
a late movie on my satellite TV
or download a new video game
from steam onto my Dell PC

if I’m lonely, I can google the internet
and look for pictures or videos of adult porn
or find some lonely hearts chat room
especially for the geeky lovelorn

If I’m hungry or thirsty
I can look in my mini-fridge for food
and eat or drink whatever I’ve got
that fits with my somber mood

If I’m lazy or tired, I can sit and rock
in my big, comfy lazy-boy chair
and close my eyes and rest
or just sit there and stare

so, there’s so much that I can do
and my options are aplenty
but when I look around my room
why does it just seem so empty?

Oh, this one sounds so depressing. I thought of it last night just as I was going to bed, but didn’t feel it was worth getting back up out of bed to write down. Or, I was just too tired. I’m surprised that I remembered most of it this morning. Still not sure if it was worth getting up out of bed to write down, though. ๐Ÿ™‚

Maybe because it’s early in the morrning and I’m having my first cup of coffee, but this made me thing of the song Counting Flowers on the Wall ( ) ..a rarely less serious tone than your poem.

Oh yes, I remember that song. Captain Kangaroo and solitaire with the deck of 51 cards. Lol some things in the human condition never really change after all, I guess. ๐Ÿ™‚

Looking for ghosts my friend, it seems to me. But what do I know? I get lost in clouds and talk to elephants!

Maybe we can share a cloud someday, my friend. In the meantime, give the elephant’s trunk a tug for me. ๐Ÿ™‚

    You need a cat

      meow. ๐Ÿ™‚

We have four cats. Or, actually, four cats currently have us. They nominally belong to my daughter. The littlest one mostly stays in my daughters room, when she isn’t having problems. She runs away when I try to pet her. Another one stays outside our rooms on the upstairs landing where we keep a tall cat tower. She will let me pet her as long as I don’t make any sudden moves. Another one decided on her own to move downstairs with my wife. She now sleeps on the back of the couch that my wife likes to sleep on. She will greet me and want me to pet her when I come into the kitchen. The oldest cat spends most of his time outside. He will come up and greet me when I return home. He is known to have a temper and a mind of his own, but he has mellowed with age somewhat. Long ago, he figured out how to open our front doors to let himself out and to try to let my wife’s dog escape. So, I had to replace the handle knob with a round knob that he couldn’t open. For years after that, he would walk past my wife and come all the way upstairs to meow at my door late at night just to make me come and let him out the front door. I know that he did this on purpose to punish me for changing the knob because he could go in and out through the dog door anytime he wanted. He finally forgave me, though.

๐Ÿ™‚ I enjoyed that! Smart animals! I wish I had cats again but my husband doesn’t want them anymore. I miss their company very much.
