my dearest choice

is it blatant when I can’t help but smile
in my not so subtle, innocent style
is it visible sparkling in my adoring eyes
or have I kept it successfully disguised
is it obvious in my careful choice of words
or have I left behind no obvious records
is it exposed when I flip through my hair
or would that be mistaken for simple flair
can it be heard in the pitch of my voice
or will no one ever know my dearest choice
avoiding open ground

I remember every anxious slow motion moment
When we were both cautiously maneuvering around
Uncertain of each others feelings and positions
Neither wanting to be the first caught in open ground
Did you mean more than what you actually said?
I searched but didn’t find hidden signals and signs
So maybe it all was just the fog of war in my head
And I was just reading too much in between the lines
safely stopped

perhaps some words should be left unsaid
since some things can’t be undone
better stored in carefully hidden places
safely stopped before carelessly begun
hidden hot springs in my heart

memories of my love all wrapped up
in silky ribbons and bows
with all of her smooth edges and curves
inspiring my efforts at poetry and prose
the melodic sound of her voice once echoed
in my heart like a romantic symphony
stirring deep felt desires and yearnings
of a world full of infinite possibility
these are the kinds of true feelings
that never really go away
like a hidden hot spring in my heart
they slowly bubble to the surface still to this day
