Joe Pisapia

As I previously posted, the Joe in ‘Joe, Marc’s Brother’ is Joe Pisapia, a record producer, songwriter and musician.

Here are a couple of wonderful videos of the talented Joe Pisapia and friends that I found while working on my previous post.

On The Other Side

Better Friends

I don’t have any of Joe’s solo albums, but I’m thinking that I should check them out, now.

Kathleen Edwards

After I first heard the lovely and talented Canadian singer/songwriter Kathleen Edwards’ song ‘In State’ on the radio, I went straight out looking for her album.

Both of these songs are from her 2005 album ‘Back To Me’.

In State

Back To Me

Highly recommended or her Daddy just may come looking for you!

Jules Verdone

Until recently, I’ve only had one album from sometimes singer/songwriter Jules Verdone. These two songs are my favorites from that album, her 1998 release of ‘Diary of a Liar’.

Through My Teeth

Debt

Working on this post, I found out that more of her music is available on Bandcamp. Here’s a link to my favorite track, ‘alaska’, from her album ‘Dopodomani’ released in 2013.

Highly recommended. (Jules, you owe me. 😆)

Carlene Carter

Carlene Carter is a lovely blue-eyed country music singer and songwriter from Tennessee.

I am not a avid country music listener, but I was living and working in Tennessee at Oak Ridge for some time early in my career. So, I heard a lot of it back then. As soon as I heard Carlene’s song ‘Every Little Thing’ from her 1993 album ‘Little Love Letters’, I fell in love with it. What a great song co-written by Carlene.

I’ve seen the hilarious and fun video that Carlene made for the song (she wears different wigs as each member of the band), but couldn’t find it online anymore. What’s the world coming to? Luckily, parts of it are mixed in with scenes from the film Matilda (a cute film, btw) in the following video. Give it a gander.

I hear songs on the radio
They might be fast or they might be slow
But every song they play’s got me thinking ’bout you
I see a fella walking down the street
He looks at me and he smiles real sweet
But he don’t matter to me ’cause I’m thinking ’bout you

Every little dream I dream about you
Every little thought I think about you
Drives me crazy when you go away
I oughta keep you locked up at home
And like a wild horse I wanna break you
I love you so much I hate you
Every little thing reminds me of you
Honey, when you leave me here all alone

My tongue gets tied when I try to talk
My knees get weak when I start to walk
So I might as well stay home and keep thinking ’bout you
The Young and Restless on my TV set
That’s just like us when we first met
And when they start to kissing got me thinking ’bout you

Every little dream I dream about you
Every little thought I think about you
Drives me crazy when you go away
I oughta keep you locked up at home
And like a wild horse I wanna break you
I love you so much I hate you
Every little thing reminds me of you
Honey, when you leave me here all alone

Every little dream I dream about you
Every little thought I think about you
Drives me crazy when you go away
I oughta keep you locked up at home
And like a wild horse I wanna break you
I love you so much I hate you
Every little thing reminds me of you
Honey, when you leave me here all alone

Every little thing reminds me of you
Honey, when you leave me here all alone
Every little thing reminds me of you
Honey, when you leave me here all alone
All alone
Carter Carlene, Anderson Alan G

Every Little Thing

Here’s another great song co-written by Carlene that is from her album ‘I Fell in Love’ released in 1990.

I Fell In Love

Highly recommended, y’all.

Trish Murphy

Trish Murphy is an Austin, Texas based chef, writer, and singer/songwriter. She looks good doin’ it, too!

These first two songs are both from her great country pop/rock album ‘Rubies On The Lawn’ released in 1999.

I wake up in the night but you don’t know it.
It kills me you’re not there
But I won’t show it.
Lying awake
Hoping the fever will break
And the shakes will soon go away.
Is there anything I can’t take?

Cause I don’t understand you at all.
(Don’t understand you at all.)
Don’t wanna stand where you fall.
There’s no need.
There’s no turning back.
(Turning back.)
Cause I know what you are.

And I’m really sick
But I’m kicking you today.
I can’t keep getting back
What you keep taking away.
It’s part of the deal
And what it means is I’m starting to heal.
Learning to see.
And I’ve finally begun to feel

That I don’t understand you at all.
(Don’t understand you at all.)
Don’t wanna stand where you fall.
There’s no need.
There’s no turning back.
(Turning back.)
Cause I know what you are.

When you’re gone
(When you’re gone.)
Something good will come along.
When it’s over
I won’t look over my sholder.

I’m getting well.
Don’t try to save me,
I’m saving myself.
You go to hell.
And it’s probably just as well.

That I don’t understand you at all.
(Don’t understand you at all.)
Don’t wanna stand where you fall.
There’s no need.
There’s no turning back.
Cause I know what you are.
I know what you are.
I know what you are.
I know what you are.
Trish Murphy

I Know What You Are

In this next one, Trish starts off saying that she’s “getting high on sci-fi and forty-fives”. So, basically, she is the perfect woman for me. LOL

Me Behind The Wheel

This next song is from her first album ‘Crooked Mile’ released in 1998.

Scorpio Tequila

This last fun song is from her album ‘Girls Get In Free’ released in 2005. I always chuckle when she gets to the line where she calls her daddy on the phone. LOL

The Trouble With Trouble

Highly recommended, and pass the salt please.

KT Tunstall

I recently noticed that the talented Scotish singer/songwriter, KT Tunstall, is releasing a new album this year. I’m looking forward to this. I love her rhythm guitar and energetic music. I remember my first exposure to her was a video of her amazing live performance of rhythm guitar and percussion on the song ‘Black Horse and the Cherry Tree’.

This is her official video for her new song, ‘Canyons’ from her upcoming album, ‘Nut’.

The following song is my favorite from her first album, ‘Eye to the Telescope ‘ released in 2004.

Suddenly I See

The next three songs are from her second album, ‘Drastic Fantastic’, released in 2007. This great album also has some cool cover art, a gorgeous K T holding a beautiful sparkling guitar, that really caught my eye back then.

Hold On

If Only

I Don’t Want You Now

Highly recommended. Obviously, she has also made a lot of neat videos in addition to her great music.

Michelle Malone

Michelle Malone is a rock and blues singer/songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia. The next two songs are from her wonderful album ‘Beneath the Devil Moon’ released in 1997.

Once in my life
A girl learning goodbye
Daddy’s all gone
She’s standing in the drive

Dreams they rescue me
I dream away
I dream my life away
Gone away, gone away, gone away

I’m staring out the window
A million miles away
Blue suede
No fires for the widow
No flowers did she lay
Blue suede

Once in my life
Had a brother who had me
He may have gone
But he will never leave, leave me

From down there
Was nothing I could do
Lie down there
Or crawl back in the room
There was no room

Michelle Malone

Blue Suede

You hand me life to hold on to
I’ve got a lock without a clue
I’ve got a guitar but I haven’t got any blues
You drove your car into the rail
Hey, little star, your engine failed
You lack the luster, dull and pale
But still I cannot shine for you

I’ve got a garden where I am growing patients
And my green thumb has become… has come undone
I’ve got a garden and I am growing impatient
And my green thumb has become

Talk to me, that’s what you came to do
You just stand there without a clue
I’ve got a guitar but I’ve got no diagnosis for you
Space invader, little quasar
Oh, how I wonder what you are
You can’t get where you’re going to
Still I cannot take you

I’ve got a spot out back where I’ve taken my shovel
I’ve got a spot out back that’s taking all of my time
I’ve got a plot out back if I should run into trouble

So don’t give me anything to hold
You keep your diary in bold
I never said I wanted to
But you just assumed…
Michelle Malone

My Green Thumb

The next two songs are from Michelle’s 1999 release on her own SBS Records label, ‘Home Grown’. This album leans more into acoustic guitar driven folk/pop music.

Avalon

Havasu Falls

Highly recommended.

Eddie Cochran

Tragically songwriter/singer/musician Eddie Cochran only lived to be 21. This great pioneer of rock and rockabilly only released one album during his short life, but still had a major impact on rock and roll. Here are three of my very favorite Cochran co-written songs. Eddie was a unique talent.

I’m a-gonna raise a fuss
I’m a-gonna raise a holler
About workin’ all summer
Just-a trying to earn a dollar

Every time I call my baby
Try to get a date
My boss says “No dice, son
You gotta work late”

Sometimes I wonder
What I’m a-gonna do
But there ain’t no cure
For the summertime blues
Jerry Capehart & Eddie Cochran

Summertime Blues

A look a-there, here she comes
Here comes that girl again
Wanted to date her since I don’t know when
But she don’t notice me when I pass
She goes with all the guys from outta my class
But that can’t stop me from a-thinkin’ to myself
She’s sure fine lookin’, man, she’s something else
eddie cochran, BOB COCHRAN, SHARI K. SHEELEY

Something Else

Ah well, c’mon everybody and let’s get together tonight
I got some money in my jeans and I’m really gonna spend it right
Well, I’ve been doin’ my homework all week long
And now the house is empty and the folks are gone
Hooo! C’mon, everybody!
Eddie Cochran & Jerry Capehart

C’mon Everbody

Highly recommended. Man, it’s something else!

Michael Penn

From the moment that I first heard the top twenty hit ‘No Myth’ on the radio, I knew Michael Penn was a talent to watch. He is one of my favorite musicians.

So
She says it’s time she goes
But wanted to be sure I know
She hopes we can be friends

“I think
Yeah, I guess we can” say I
But didn’t think to ask her why
She blocked her eyes and drew the curtains
With knots I’ve got yet to untie

What if I were Romeo in black jeans
What if I was Heathcliff, it’s no myth
Maybe she’s just looking for
Someone to dance with
Michael Penn

No Myth

Radio and popular tastes are fickle, so I dont think the following great song by Penn off of his fourth album, MP4, was ever played on the radio. That is a shame. It is high time it was heard.

What a scene
What a drama just to find the door
That was mean
That was totally uncalled for
Have you reached the point
Where you must choose
Between what you lost
And what you stand to lose?
Isn’t it high time?

Could it be
That the future’s going to turn out great?
Well, we’ll see
Meantime, somebody lays in wait
‘Til you reach the point where
You must choose
Between what you lost
And what you stand to lose
So come up with a new line
‘Cause, baby, it’s high time
Michael Penn

High Time

Here’s a wonderful live acoustic performance by Michael Penn and Patrick Warren on MTV Unplugged. They play ‘No Myth’ from Penn’s first album and ‘Brave New World’ from his second album, March.

Highly recommended. Shoo be bop, baby.

Sloan

Sloan is a Canadian power pop band that has been making music together for decades. Consisting of four singer/songwriters (Patrick Pentland, Jay Ferguson, Chris Murphy, and Andrew Scott), the band has depth that few bands can match.

Here is Sloan in a great live performance of ‘Spin Our Wheels’ from their twelfth studio album, named ’12’, released in 2018.

I was feeling ill
From sitting still
So sick of my routine
In a bungalow
Like a typical teen

I was hoping there’d be more
Then you knocked upon my door
Wanting to go
Places I never been
What did I know?
Ready let’s go

There’s only so much time
We can kill here
Before we start to
Spin our wheels
Chris Murphy

Spin Our Wheels

‘Everything You’ve Done Wrong’ is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite Sloan albums, ‘One Chord To Another’ which was released in 1996.

Do your time to pay the price
For every thing you’ve done wrong, baby
In your life, you get so high
There’s nowhere left to go but down

And don’t believe that no one cares
‘Cause we’re here waiting for you, baby
Do your time and then come home for good
Patrick Pentland

Everything You’ve Done Wrong

Highly recommended.
